EXALTATION OF THE HOLY CROSS

  1. FAUSTI - "No one has ascended to heaven" No one can, like Adam, the Titans or Prometheus, give the ascent to heaven to kidnap heavenly things or fire. It is instead the sky that descends to earth, to give us itself. God is Love that descends into the Son towards all our brothers and sisters.
Being a child is not an object of robbery, but a gift of love.
The Son of Man raised up - heaven has opened up for Him, both to descend and to ascend - is the only one who can manifest glory to us and tell us about the Father.
In Him there is the descent of God towards man and the ascent of man to God.
"As Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert" To the people, bitten by the snakes, Moses showed, raised as a standard, a bronze serpent (Num 21,8). Whoever looked up, was cured of the deadly poison.
Contemplating the Crucified One, we are "unveiled" by the lie of the serpent who took away our knowledge of the Father and made us flee from Him.
In Him we know the truth of God and ours. He loves us and we are the love He has for us.
Looking to the One we have pierced (19:37) at the foot of the cross, we discover this truth that makes us free (8:32) and we are born from above.
God's salvation does not ignore evil. That would be false. Instead, he assumes it, in a divine way, out of love.
And he conquers it in forgiveness, where all, from the smallest to the greatest, we know who the Lord is.
"God has always loved the world, even if the world rejects Him. The love of the Father is gratuitous and unreserved. The Son, who knows and lives Him, testifies to us from the Cross.
This verse presents to us the centre of the Gospel of John, who wants to lead us to confess with wonder. "We have recognized and believed in the love that God has for us.
In fact, "God is Love" (1 Jn 4:16).
"To give the Only Begotten Son" gave us the Son, because only in him, who loves as he is loved, do we see our identity as children of the Father.
Jesus, being a Son, lived what we too are called to live: "filiality" and the consequent fraternity. He loves us with the same Love that the Father has for him and assures us that the Father loves us like him (17:23), with a love that is before the foundation of the world (17:24).
Salvation is believing in Jesus Crucified, the Son of Man raised up.
He is the Word, light and life of every man, become flesh to tell us the absolute Love of the Father.
In Him we are given our identity as children and we are what we are.
Outside of Him, we are what we are not, the nothingness of ourselves.
For this reason, to welcome Him, the Son, is to find ourselves; to refuse Him is to lose ourselves.

    Gv 3.13-17
The Son of Man must be raised.
From the Gospel according to John

At that time, Jesus said to Nicodemus:
"No one has ever ascended to heaven except the one who descended from heaven, the Son of Man. And just as Moses lifted up the serpent in the desert, so must the Son of Man be lifted up, so that whoever believes in him may have eternal life.
For God so loved the world that he gave the only begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not be lost, but have eternal life.
God, in fact, did not send the Son into the world to condemn the world, but so that the world may be saved through him".
