FIRST READING Therefore observe its laws and its commands which today I give you. From the Book of Deuteronomy 4,32-34.39-40 Moses spoke to the people and said, "Question also the ancient times, which were first said: From the day God created man on earth and from one end of the heavens to the other, was there anything as great as this and was there anything like this ever heard? That a people has heard the voice of God speak from the fire, as you have heard it, and that it remains alive? Or has a god ever tried to go and choose one nation from another with trials, signs, wonders and battles, with a mighty hand and an outstretched arm and great terrors, as the Lord your God did for you in Egypt before your very eyes? Know therefore today and meditate well in your heart that the Lord is God up there in heaven and down here on earth; there is none else. So keep his laws and his commandments which I give you today, that you may be happy and that you may remain for a long time in the land which the Lord your God gives you for ever. Word of God.
RESPONSORYAL HEALTH (From Psalm 32) R. Blessed is the people chosen by the Lord. Straight is the word of the Lord and faithful to every one of his works. He loves justice and law; The earth is full of the love of the Lord. R. By the word of the Lord heaven was made, from the breath of his mouth to every side of them. For he spoke, and all was created, he commanded and everything was done. R. Behold, the eye of the Lord is upon those who fear him, about who hopes for his love, to free him from death. and feed it in time of hunger.R. Our soul awaits the Lord: He is our help and our shield. May your love be upon us, O Lord, as we hope you will. R.
SECOND READING You have received the Spirit who makes you adopted children, through whom we cry out, "Abba! Father!". From the letter of Saint Paul the Apostle to the Romans 8:14-17 Brothers, all those who are guided by the Spirit of God, these are children of God. And you have not received a slave spirit to fall back into fear, but you have received the Spirit who makes you adopted children, through whom we cry out: "Abba! Father!". The Spirit Himself, together with our spirit, attests that we are children of God. And if we are children, we are also heirs: heirs of God, coheirs of Christ, if we really share in his sufferings to share in his glory. Word of God.
SINGING (Rev 1,8) Hallelujah, hallelujah. Glory to the Father, to the Son, to the Holy Spirit: To God who is, who was and who comes. Alleluia.
GOSPEL Baptize all peoples in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. + From the Gospel according to John 28- 16-20 At that time, the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain that Jesus had indicated to them. When they saw him, they prostrated themselves. But they doubted. Jesus approached them and said, "All power has been given to me in heaven and on earth. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you every day until the end of the world. Word of the Lord.
FAUSTI - "Go therefore and make disciples of all peoples", Jesus says to the eleven. Once His Mission is finished, those who have met Him begin their journey. It is His own Son who bears witness to the Father's love for those brothers and sisters who do not yet know Him. What the Nazorean has offered Israel, the "Nazorei" offer it to all peoples. Whoever has discovered his own name as a son in him, realizes it, like him, going towards his brothers and sisters, until the Name of the Father in heaven is sanctified throughout the world. The passage is a summary vision of the whole book of Matthew. Like the end of a symphony, it takes up and blends the themes developed in his Gospel into a single harmony. Those who are sent are not "masters": Only one is the Master. They are and always remain "disciples", who learn! They are not masters, but listeners of the Wisdom of the Son, veiled to the wise and intelligent, but revealed to the infants. And there are eleven, not twelve, and one is missing. The Community is structurally imperfect: sin and betrayal are always present, even in those who hear the Word. Matthew knows it: for this reason he insists, also here, that it must be put into practice, without discounts. The text, as always, is addressed to the readers, so that they too may have the experience of the first disciples. They must go to Galilee, to the mountain indicated to them by Jesus. There they see Him and adore Him. Doubt is also part of the encounter, of which faith represents the overcoming. Whoever goes to the mountain knows the Son and is given His same power. It is to do what he says, to forgive and to overcome evil. He showed it, with great power and glory, in the sign of the Son of Man: the Cross! The Apostles must not teach, but make all men disciples of the one Master: the Spirit who guides in the truth of the Son. Their mission is to communicate to others the same power that Jesus communicated to them: that of listening and making the Word, to become a people that gives the fruit of the Kingdom. Jesus came to immerse us in the Father of Life, whose name we had rejected, losing ours. It is in the Name of the Son, in His person, that we are in the Father! It is in the Name of the Spirit, mutual Love between Father and Son, that we are inserted into the Trinity, sharing in the Life of God. The Son is our brother forever: His Name is God-with-us. His being with us makes our being with Him possible. Time is a journey, the goal of which is to be with the One who has always and forever been with us. This will be when, through the witness of the disciples, we all become children and brothers.
